4. Test your ice-skating skills at the Bridgewater Ice Arena

The Bridgewater Ice Arena is just eight miles west of Halifax in Bridgewater. If you’ve always wanted to ice skate, or you are a well-experienced skater, the arena is the perfect spot to spend a few hours. The arena offers public skating during certain times of day, and you can catch a hockey game or skating competition if you prefer to just be a spectator. Skates are available for rent to those that don’t have their own to bring.

5. Explore the Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area in Hanson

The Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area in Hanson is made up of over 2,000 acres of shallow waters and ponds that were once used as cranberry bogs. Today, the area is a wildlife management area that the state reserves for local fish, birds, and other native creatures. The park offers an impressive 10-mile system of trails that are easy to walk because they were once used for tending the cranberry bogs. While boats are not permitted on Burrage’s ponds and waterways, shoreline fishing is allowed.
