Celebrating Women in Cannabis: Honoring Women-Owned Brands at Flower & Soul

Posted on March 14th, 2025 to Products by

For Women’s Month, we’d like to take a few minutes to celebrate all the amazing women who continue to shape the cannabis industry into what it is today. Despite the Massachusetts cannabis industry being one of the most mature on the East Coast, it is still largely a male-dominated industry. Therefore, we take great pride in doing all we can to support the women in weed who are on a mission to bring their unique perspectives to all avenues of cannabis. In honor of Women’s Month, we’d like to tell you more about the women owned cannabis brands we love, and how you can support women in cannabis.

Women Owned Cannabis Brands We Love in Massachusetts

Miss Grass

Miss Grass was brought to life by co-founders Kate Miller and Anna Duckworth, two visionary women passionate about enriching everyday experiences through the power of cannabis. Since its inception, the brand has been driven by a mission to demystify weed, offering education on its scientific benefits, rich history, and cultural significance. Their lineup features terpene-rich pre-rolls, including options like Fast Times, All Times, and Quiet Times for targeted experiences in every pre-roll offered. Now on dispensary menus in states like California, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, Miss Grass has become a beloved name from coast to coast. We’re proud to stock this woman-led brand, celebrating its roots and unwavering dedication to elevating the cannabis journey for all.

Coast Cannabis Co.

Coast Cannabis Co. is known in Massachusetts for some of the most sought-after infused chocolate bars, like Dark Chocolate Sea Salt and Milk Chocolate S’mores, each delivering 100 mg of THC with organic, fair-trade cacao. Co-founded by Angela Brown with her husband Brian Cusick in 2020, the brand remains focused on wellness with cannabis and crafting products any cannabis consumer can appreciate. Today, Coast makes more than chocolates; the brand has an impressive collection of high-quality gummies with unique cannabinoid combinations to support various experiences and needs. Brown’s push for quality—sparked by her dislike of low-grade edibles—has made Coast a name to remember for many.

Kiva Confections

Every edible Kiva makes is on a different level when it comes to quality. Kiva Edibles is known in Massachusetts for its sought-after cannabis chocolate bars and Terra Bites, alongside its popular Camino Gummies with tailored effects, Lost Farm strain-specific gummies, and more. Founded in 2010 by Kristi Palmer and her husband Scott in their California kitchen, Kiva grew from a quest for quality edibles into a brand offering precise-dose gummies, mints, and chews. Available in Massachusetts since 2021, Kiva reflects Palmer’s vision, showing women’s influence on cannabis with consistent, high-quality products and the potential to continually bust through barriers.

The Importance of Supporting Women in Cannabis and Beyond

Historically, women have faced many challenges breaking into an array of industries. It wasn’t until the latter half of the 20th century that women started to gain more traction in fields like business and science, often fighting against limited access to education and workplace bias. While cannabis is a newer industry, similar patterns persist for women trying to establish themselves, whether that is when trying to become a licensed cultivator or processor or opening a dispensary.

Many have faced obstacles like securing funding, navigating regulatory hurdles, and overcoming stereotypes, challenges less common for their male counterparts. In Massachusetts, where only about 5% of cannabis brands are woman-owned, supporting these entrepreneurs is key to fostering equity and diversity. Their success not only strengthens the industry but also inspires future generations of women to pursue their ambitions, both in cannabis and beyond.

How to Support Woman-Led Cannabis Brands

Supporting women in cannabis during Women’s Month—and year-round—starts with intentional choices. Shop for products from brands like Miss Grass, Coast Cannabis Co., and Kiva Confections at your local dispensary to directly fuel their growth. Don’t see brands owned by women at the dispensary? Be sure to ask about them and let shops know which brands you’d like to see included on the menu. Every small action helps shift the industry and ensure women are empowered to hold a stable place in cannabis.
